Here were located the ancient Parisian quarries dating back to Roman Era, from where stones were extracted to build the city and its surrounding throughout the centuries. In order to sanatize the city, works commissioned by the King were carried out as of 1777, closing cemeteries and sending the bones to these tunnels left by the quarry workers! the Catacombs were born.
