The Hotel des Invalides was commissioned by Louis XIV in order to host all his army’s invalid or injured soldiers. Not only because of his pious consciousness but to avoid them to live on the cities streets and disturb public order. Today, in this military complex, we can visit the Army Museum, with its collection spanning from Medieval times to WWII, and two different churches (one for King and the other, for the soldiers). It’ll be here where we’ll find Napoleon I’s tomb, too!

Louis XIV, married to Maria Theresa of Spain, moved officially from the Louvre Palace to Versailles in 1681 after decades of construction. His great grandson, Louis XV, married to Maria Leszczynska of Poland, was the one who enjoyed it afterwards, even if he didn’t like all the protocol burden which came with his legacy. Louis XV’s grandson, Louis XVI, married to the famous queen, Marie Antoinette of Austria, was the one who paid the price for living in such luxurious standards while his subjects were struggling to survive. Come inside and let’s discover together all the history, stories and anedoctes these walls and gardens can tell us.

MEDIEVAL PARIS TOUR

At the Ile de la Cité, right in the heart of Paris, let’s go back 800 years in time. Let’s talk about how Paris became the religious and political center and one of the most important European cities because of this new and “modern” edifice. Let’s talk about the evolution of the Gothic style, from Notre Dame to the Saint Chapelle. Let’s understand why the kings of France preffered the Louvre, moving out of the Palais de Justice – Conciergerie building complex. The neighborhood of artists and bohemians?

Montmartre is definitely more than that. Let’s visit the Sacre Coeur basilica’s interior, stroll around 21th century painters working at Place du Tertre, take that famous picture in front of the Moulin Rouge and much more.

IMPRESSIONS…

In this former railway station, we’ll be mesmerized with the largest collection of impressionist and post-Impressionist masterpieces in the world, by painters like Monet, Manet, Cézanne, Renoir, you name it. Even if the Museum is worth it a visit of its own, a combo with a prior visit to the Louvre would give a general idea about the evolution of the art history in Europe until the beginning of the XX century. Should I remind you that here we can find a Opera Garnier model exposed as well? A Montmartre tour would be a perfect match for your day too.
